Free online asbestos awareness training

Asbestos Awareness Training is important as asbestos exposure remains one of the leading causes of work-related deaths in the construction industry. However asbestos was once classed as a great material for its insulation and fire resistant properties. The substance is now more known for it being a serious hazard to anyone in or around older buildings.
Disturbing or breaking asbestos containing materials however releases fine fibres into the air. People can inhale these fibres, allowing them to become trapped in the lungs where they can cause serious diseases. This can include Asbestosis, Mesothelioma, and lung cancer.
Therefore anyone carrying out work on potentially asbestos contaminated properties must receive annual asbestos awareness training. Thus employers must arrange this on their behalf to meet their legal responsibilities.
So training gives your staff the knowledge and confidence to identify potential asbestos and understand the steps needed to minimise risk and prevent exposure.
At Safety Place, we’re doing our part by offering a free online asbestos awareness training to help you meet both your legal and moral responsibilities.
Who needs Asbestos Awareness Training?

Under the Control of Asbestos Regulation 2012, anyone who is liable to disturb asbestos must get the correct level of training so they can undertake their job safely. Asbestos containing materials may be present in any building built pre 2000.
So if you are a construction worker, plumber, electrician, joiner or any trader that could come into it’s contact, then you need to undertake asbestos awareness training.
Independent Asbestos Training Providers (IATP) organisation have independently verified and certified our Asbestos Awareness Training. So you know the training is verified by industry experts.
Why is Asbestos dangerous?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring material that the construction industry once used because of its strength, insulation properties, and resistance to heat and fire.
Although asbestos containing materials do not always present a danger when left undisturbed, damaging, cutting, drilling, or breaking them can release tiny fibres into the air that people may then inhale.
These fibres can become trapped in the lungs and, over time, may lead to serious illnesses including Mesothelioma, Asbestosis and lung cancer.
Where can you find asbestos?

Residential and commercial properties across the UK can still contain asbestos, including:
- Insulation boards and ceiling tiles
- Pipe lagging and boiler insulation
- Textured coatings such as Artex
- Cement roof sheets, gutters and flues
- Floor tiles and adhesives
- Soffits, panels and partition walls
- Fire doors and fireproofing materials
Anyone working on older buildings should therefore treat unknown materials with caution and ensure appropriate surveys and controls are in place before work begins.
